Are 4D Number Plates Legal?
We often get asked various questions about the legality of 4D plates, such as “are 4d plates legal” and “are 4d reg plates legal”, and the simple answer is absolutely yes! The DVLA states that characters must be solid black, which makes 4D number plates legal! The jet black acrylic characters have been designed and laser cut to match standard Charles Wright Font text with exacting standards. Do you offer 4D 5mm number plates?
Yes, as part of our wide selection of 4D acrylic number plates, we also offer 5mm 4D plates, as well as 4mm Gel 4D plates too!
Can I buy 4D matte number plates from you?
Yes, absolutely! In September 2021, we launched our range of 4D matte black plates, which are available in both the standard 3mm and 5mm 4D matte options too! These, combined with our other options such as short 4d number plates and gel 4d number plates, means that for the best 4d number plates around, you’re absolutely in the right place!
What are 4D Neon Plates?
In the past, you have been able to add a different colour to fit underneath the black acrylic, which we call 4D Neon number plates, which are referred to in other places as 4D Crystal plates.
These coloured number plates were incredibly popular for a time, particularly for shows and events. Our range of neon number plates included a range of colours, including red, blue, orange, green, purple and white, which meant that when it came to 4D plates and 4D show plates, we really were top of the class.
How much are 4D number plates?
Since 4D number plates are a text style, the final cost of your order may vary depending on your choices. The cost for a standard ABS number plate with the 4D text style starts at £24.99. Prices may increase or decrease when different plate materials, borders, and badges are added. However, when you seek affordable 4D number plates, we always aim to provide competitive pricing.
Are 4D neon plates legal?
We’re often asked the question “are 4d coloured number plates legal?”, and the simple answer is no, 4D Neon plates are no longer legal, hence we stopped selling them in September 2021. So if you’ve seen some at a show or on another site and wondering “are 4D neon red number plates legal?”, then no, unfortunately not!

Can I buy 4D show plates online?
Yes. You can use our number plate designer to create your own 4D show plates and display them in the garages, on your bedroom wall or on your vehicle at shows or trade stands. Remember though, you will still have to provide documentation for your 4D show plates if they display a road legal registration.
How much are 4D number plates?
As this is a text style, the final cost of your order can differ. When you add different plate materials, borders and badges this will increase and decrease accordingly. If you’re looking for cheap 4D number plates, then we always aim to be competitively priced!
